Today on the blog we have a review of Morgan Kelley's True Love Lost, book three in her FBI Romance series.

Callen Whitefox has a new lease on life. The choice to join the FBI was an easy one, and he has no plans on looking back. After all, he wanted off the Rez and into the world his brother now calls home. With the prospects of a new career and a chance at love, he is on cloud nine. Once could say invincible.

Then comes death.

On his first day back from Quantico, he takes an assignment with the unique Desdemona Adare. It’s supposed to be an easy job. Go in, assess the situation and keep an eye on the new ME as she starts processing the crime scene.

The killer has other plans. Someone believes that the men in town need to die, and the killer is doing a damn fine job at leaving a trail of bodies. Each victim missing one part, and then left discarded. Callen Whitefox gets his wish of working side by side with his family, and the distracting Doctor Adare. Soon he sees that things are rarely what they appear to be, and it becomes a race to survive the snowy town and a killer that needs ‘just one more piece’…

And now the review, written by Carla Rogers*

This book begins with the reintroduction of our favorite three characters - Elizabeth, Ethan and a returning Callen. He’s been away at the FBI getting certified to be Liaison to the Native American Community.

In the last Books, Sacred Burial Grounds, we get an inkling that Callen is already in love with Elizabeth, but because of his betrayal, he’s terrified to cross a line.

In comes Desdemona Adare, as the FBI West Medical Examiner. She’s not your average ME. Morgan Kelley made her a little ‘Abby’ from NCIS and a little ‘Temperance Brennan’ from Bones (in my opinion). She’s awkward and a little gothy all rolled into one. She immediately has a connection with Callen, and he does with her.

The only problem for them is, all through the book you get this sense that she’s just not the woman for him and as you’re reading you want to keep warning both of them that they shouldn’t be together! (Read the letter from the author at the end of the book!)

I won’t tell you what happens at the end, because it will ABSOLUTELY ruin it, but I will tell you that the killer is a homicidal lunatic and Elizabeth once again takes care of business when her family is threatened.

It’s a fast paced book with one hell of a twist at the end that will make you sit there and shout ‘OMG!’ as you hit the last few pages. I never saw it coming and loved every second of it! It makes me think the author is a little sick and twisted herself!

Morgan Kelley doesn’t disappoint with the killer, the romance, the family connection or the emotions in this book. This book is going to leave you hooked. It made me immediately download the next one in the series and start reading it. I was up until three a.m. on a work night and paid dearly for it the next day, but it was so worth it!

True Love Lost is a really solid, fun, and enjoyable book that keeps you wanting more. By the third book in the series, sometimes the author starts to get weak with the action, romance and writing. Not this one.

Trust me, the sex is spectacular, the twists and turns unpredictable, and the storyline is excellent.

Morgan Kelley is one of my new favorite authors.

Morgan Kelley lives in the beautiful Pocono Mountains with her husband and two children. After attending college at Penn State University and studying Criminal Justice, Morgan knew here only true passion in life would be murder and books. She put them both together and began her career as a writer. Other than books and writing, you can find Morgan hanging out in her garden and digging in the dirt.

Her other works include: The Junction, Serial Sins, The Killing Times (book 1), Sacred Burial Grounds (book 2), True Love Lost (book 3), Deep Dark Mire (book 4), Fire Burns hot (book 5) The Blood Betrayal, The Blood Redemption, The Blood Vengeance, and The Blood Retribution.

I know, I've cut back on blogs a lot in the past couple months. While they're fun to write most of the time, I found myself spending too much time figuring out what to do for the blog and not enough time focusing on the writing, which is what I really need to be doing. Fear not, I will still be posting here, just not nearly at the same frequency. So what's in store for today? A little glimpse into the past, present, and future!

The Past
A couple weeks ago, I took a mini writing vacation to get The Iron Locket finished. I like taking a couple mini vacations a year. Getting away from it all helps me clear my head, destress, and come back a little less crazy. Just a little. When I was deciding where to go this time, I stumbled across a cute little place a couple hours away.

Have you ever been in a yurt? It's a tent, a very big, very stable tent that isn't likely to blow away in a strong wind. This one was gorgeous. The inside was HUGE, bigger than many apartments I've seen. It had a separate bathroom and master bedroom, and it had this adorable loft where you could look out through the glass dome at the top to see the stars. The loft was a little scary since you had to go up this really steep ladder to get to it, but I'm sure kids would love it.

This was a wonderful getaway. It's really close to the owners' house, but Michelle and her father George are super helpful. They leave local coffee in the fridge and organic local chocolate on the table for you. During the summer when the garden is in full bloom, you can pick from the garden and gather eggs from the chicken coop. If you have kids, this place is ideal. Not only is it set up for them, but Michelle has children of her own so there is a playground and other fun toys to use. Fancy a walk? The famed Ithaca Gorges are just down back through the woods (follow the fox).

The Present
In awesome news, I have a new friend. His name is Mr Hugo Cadberry I of the Egghollow Cadberries. He comes from a very long and distinguished line of Cadberry bunnies and is a big sweetheart to boot.

Hello all, and thank you, Samantha, for having me here with you today.

A few years ago, when I only wrote for myself, I found a site called webook.com. In case you don’t already know, it’s writing forum, and where I first shared my words. It’s also where I cut my ‘story-writing’ teeth. Prior to this, I’d only ever written poetry, so writing stories was new to me. Getting any kind of feedback was so liberating, I became a little addicted. One of my absolute favorite movies is Garden State, with Zach Braff and Natalie Portman. The soundtrack is fantastic (seriously, go listen to it), but one of the best songs on there is I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You by Colin Hay. Now I'm off to watch Garden State for the 18 billionth time.

I first wrote this glimpse into a writer's mind two years ago. As today is a writing day and I really should get a blog up as well, I figured it would be nice to take another look at it.

Go where the story leads you

It starts as a single thought, maybe
just one word. It could even be an image. It grabs your attention for
one reason or another. Maybe it was suggested for a word war or writing
dash. Maybe the color caught your eye. Maybe it's the way the word flows
through your brain and off your tongue. Regardless of how it got there,
the word, the idea, the notion takes hold. It sinks its claws deep into
the creative part of your brain and refuses to release you until you
satisfy its desire for expression.

So
you sit at your computer or pull out a notepad and get to work. You
often don't know where you will begin, but that's ok. You just start
writing. The words flow, putting themselves to paper as your mind
explodes in a flurry of activity. The thoughts come and flood across the
screen without your knowledge. You have a faint idea of what is taking
place, but the story often writes itself. You are merely a conduit, a
pipeline. The words form themselves into coherent sentences without your
active interference. Your fingers simply make them visible.

You
write, the thoughts coming faster than your feeble body can manage to
get them formed in ink. You write, the story pushing you on unceasingly,
refusing to release its hold on you until you have given it its last
breath. You write, not because you want to, but because you have to. The
story demands it. It demands to be told. And you are the only one who
can tell it. So you write.

When
you reach the end, you read. You read what you have written. And as
long as you let the creative side of your brain take over and didn't
interfere in the process, you enjoy what you read. Masterpieces come
when intuition and inventiveness are allowed free reign and distractions
are limited. Masterpieces are created when you lose yourself in the
story and just let it flow. Masterpieces are destroyed when we begin to
analyze the work we have created. Masterpieces are felt, not built.

I would like to add that Masterpieces can be refined and often need to be, but the initial process of just letting it flow is very important. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15599291253361405556noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6054271507065426852.post-115346495449737932013-01-21T09:33:00.000-05:002013-01-21T09:33:16.568-05:00FMP: "I Have A Dream"

I've heard people wonder why we still celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. on the third Monday of January every year. To be quite frank, one reason we need to remember him is that if people are complaining about having to take off for a "black person day", then clearly racism is still a very prominent issue that needs to be remembered. And put quite simply, he changed the future of America. He may be famous for speaking out for African Americans, but the equality he sought for his own people paved the way for all minorities.
On the upside, we survived yet another "end of the world" catastrophe. Sorry, Mayans. Better luck next time. On the downside, I only published 4 things this year. With the increased workload at my EDJ, I simply could not keep up the same production schedule I had in 2011. For that, I truly apologize to all my readers. I can't promise to do better next year, but I will try to release at least that many books, if not more.
Last week, just before Christmas, a young man gunned down 20 children and 6 adults in an elementary school in Sandy Hook, CT. Before that, another young man opened fire at a crowded theater in Colorado. And before that another young man tried to kill a senator, another went after a college campus, still others hit a high school (Columbine, if you don't remember that far back). Every time it happens, we are shocked at how someone could do something so horrible, what is wrong with these people, why does it happen, how do we stop it. But the question is, can we stop it?
Saturday marked the 32nd anniversary of John Lennon's death. After being shot in the back outside of his home, he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced DOA. Despite his wife's wishes, the tragic news was almost immediately announced on Monday Night Football. He was cremated two days later (December 10th, 1980).

Lennon's murderer, Mark David Chapman, cited the song Imagine as one of his reasons for killing the internationally loved artist. I think he missed the whole point of the song. What do you think?
Dating can be rough, for both guys and girls, so in an effort to help those poor lonely men out there win the girl of their dreams, I offer these six bits of advice.

1) Make an effort - When you find a girl you are interested in, especially if you find her on an online dating site, it is important to show that interest. When contacting them, don't just say "Hey, how are you?" or some other generic thing that has absolutely nothing to do with anything. Comment on something they said (or did) and ask a question. Give them something to respond to. "You're pretty" (or worse, "Ur pretty") doesn't cut it. If you've seen the girl in public, say a coffee shop, add a personal touch. "You're reading Hunger Games? Cool. I haven't read it myself, but the movie was good. How does it compare?" Always give them a reason to respond with something other than "Hi" or "Thanks". And listen to what they have to say. Don't interrupt and make mental notes of things you can respond to in order to keep the conversation going.
I did this awhile back for The Seven Keys of Alaesha and I am super excited to have been tagged again by the wonderful and talented Diane Capri. Even though my own Next Big Thing is still several months from release, I'm thrilled to bring you a little preview.

1. What is the title of the work?

The current working title is The Iron Locket. Some other title ideas include Faery Hunter or Faery Blood. I am leaning heavily toward Faery Hunter, though it seems a little plain.

2. Where did the idea for the book come from?

I started out wanting to write a paranormal romance. Since vampires and werewolves have been done to death, I wanted to focus on faeries. It was just going to be a generic human hunts faeries, human meets 'special' faery, human falls in love with faery. But as I was reading through Froud and Lee's Faeries, I came across a tiny little bit of myth that claimed that King Arthur was buried in a hill in the land of Faery, awaiting the day when he would be called upon again in a time of need. That got the ball rolling, so now King Arthur and twelve of his most faithful knights must come to the aid of the four queens of Faery, all the while protecting and falling in love with Aiofe Callaghan, a young woman whose family has been tasked by Titania, Queen of the South, to exterminate faeries who escape to the human world with the intent of causing chaos.
Hi Samantha! First of all, thanks so much for having me over to your place.

***looks around ***

You've got some nice digs! It's always fun to visit new places and tell people about the release of my new novel. If you like Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance, I hope you'll love Battle Heat. It's the 2nd book in the Four Realms Series, and it's chock full of funny, sarcastic dialogue, action, suspense, and some seriously steamy love scenes!

If you read Murdering Eve, the first book in the series, then you already know our love-to-hate-her female assassin named Holly. Well, she's in a heap of trouble now…

Here's a taste:
I'm taking a break from blogging for the rest of November to focus on my writing. I'll be back in December. How could it not be with that cast? Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Steve Zahn, Renee Zellweger... It was destined for awesomeness.

I couldn't find a decent video of Ethan Hawke actually singing I'm Nuthin'. You should really just go watch the movie anyway. It's totally worth it.
Or vice versa? They did something they thought you'd love, but you really don't? It could be that you have different love languages.

What is a love language? Well, simply put, it's what makes you feel special. Gary Chapman wrote a book back in 1992 to help couples, but I think it works for everyone. So what are the love languages?

A lot of people have trouble looking past Amy Winehouse's less than stellar social life. Like many young folk these days, she let fame destroy her. But if you looked past the drugs, sex, and drama, there was a voice that could blow you away. I think if Amy had been born a generation or two earlier, she would have been spectacular. I can easily see her on the stage of a speakeasy or supporting the soldiers during WWII.
