FMP: I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You

One of my absolute favorite movies is Garden State, with Zach Braff and Natalie Portman. The soundtrack is fantastic (seriously, go listen to it), but one of the best songs on there is I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You by Colin Hay. Now I'm off to watch Garden State for the 18 billionth time.

FMP: Tiny Dancer - Elton John

Who doesn't love a little Elton John first thing in the morning? Go on, I dare you not to sing along. And then when you're done, go watch Almost Famous for my favorite non-Elton version. Good music can cure any ailment.

FMP: I'm Nuthin' - Ethan Hawke

Reality Bites was one of the most iconic movies of the 90s. How could it not be with that cast? Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Steve Zahn, Renee Zellweger... It was destined for awesomeness.

I couldn't find a decent video of Ethan Hawke actually singing I'm Nuthin'. You should really just go watch the movie anyway. It's totally worth it.

FMP: Me & Mr. Jones - Amy Winehouse

A lot of people have trouble looking past Amy Winehouse's less than stellar social life. Like many young folk these days, she let fame destroy her. But if you looked past the drugs, sex, and drama, there was a voice that could blow you away. I think if Amy had been born a generation or two earlier, she would have been spectacular. I can easily see her on the stage of a speakeasy or supporting the soldiers during WWII.

FMP: To Live Is To Fly

I love this version of this song. Townes Van Zandt was a very talented man. This particular video has the lyrics in the description. Enjoy.

FMP: Somebody's Chelsea

I've always liked Reba McEntire. This is one of her more beautiful songs. I dare you to not cry. Plus, Ed Asner. That is all.

FMP: In My Mind - Amanda Palmer

I was recently introduced to Amanda Palmer through a post by Jenny Lawson (aka: The Bloggess). This song is the one that sticks out the most to me right now. (Warning: She does use the eff-bomb on occasion, but not much)

FMP: Love Hurts - Zooey Deschanel

Alright, so this isn't actually on my mp3 player, but if I could find it somewhere, it would be.

FMP: As She's Walking Away - Zac Brown Band

Zac Brown Band is one of those groups that can do no wrong. Every song they've released has hit #1 and it's clear why. Here's the one they did with Alan Jackson, As She's Walking Away.

FMP: Chances Are - Garrett Hedlund

This boy totally missed his calling.

And now for the actual song. I love most of his songs. Hell, I love all of his songs, and I really wish he'd do a real album. But for now, here is Chances Are.

FMP: Santaria - Aimee Allen

Sublime made Santaria famous, yes, but Aimee Allen perfected it. She took an already awesome song and gave it a little Hawaiian twist. She's up there with Meaghan Smith on my list of totally kick-ass chicks who need to be more popular than they are.

FMP: Over and Over - Rachel Yamagata

I will admit that I discovered this woman playing a video game. But regardless, she is one of the most talented, heartbreaking musicians I've heard. This song is beautiful and one of my favorites.

FMP: Little Miss

I'm not a big fan of Sugarland. They're more poppy and obnoxious than anything. But on occasion, they get it right, like with Little Miss.

This week's From My Playlist is Meaghan Smith's Heartbroken. Smith is a fantabulous artist and there are very few songs on her The Cricket's Orchestra album that I don't absolutely love.
