5 Worst Movies Ever

Oh yes, here we go. The movies below are five of my absolute least favorite movies ever. They are in no particular order.

1. A Beautiful Mind
This movie has so many marks against it. First off, it stars Russell Crowe, who I've only really liked in Gladiator and Robin Hood. Second, I'm a very light sleeper. I wake up when a car drives by outside. So you can believe me when I say this is the only movie that I've ever fallen asleep in.

2. Blow
Now, I will admit that a few years ago I went back and watched this and it wasn't so bad, but at the time it was released, it was awful. I went with a friend in my dorm. Halfway through, he reached over and grabbed my leg. We were sitting near the bottom, behind the rail that wheelchairs park in front of and I had my feet propped up against it. Apparently, I was tapping my foot against the rail and didn't even realize it. We were getting glares from the 3 other people in the theater. Even after re-watching it, I still don't remember much about this movie, but it's where I learned that I don't particularly like Penelope Cruz.

3. Phone Booth
Somehow, I ended up paying to see this twice. And it was worse the second time. Colin Farrell is a horrible actor, and he's just not a nice person. Though, to be fair, he was great in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, where he played a jerk and got hanged at the end. Funny how I'm noticing a theme here. It seems the movies I really dislike are those that spawned a dislike for one of the actors involved.

4. Twilight
Please put down the rope and pitchforks and hear me out. I liked the books for the most part. Really, I did. And I'm totally Team Charlie when it comes to the movies. I had high hopes for this series when it first came to film. I even bought Twilight and watched it four times, trying to make myself like it. But it just wasn't happening. I think this particular series' failure can be attributed to the casting director, honestly. The two main actors are simply atrocious. If they had cast different people for Edward and Bella, the movies might have been saved. No idea what the directors were thinking on this one. And the pattern continues with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

5. Unbreakable
And here we are, breaking the pattern. The three main actors (Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and Buttercup - aka: Robin Wright) are all amazing. I honestly can't even remember why I don't like this movie. I saw it in the theater and it's stuck with me ever since, and not in a good way. I know I was bored stiff and I guess that's really all that matters.

So now it's your turn. What movie(s) sticks in your mind as one of the worst you've ever seen? What caused it to be so awful?

  1. Hi, at least we agree on the Twilight movie. I guess I'm just too danged old for all that teenage angst. I haven't watched the follow ups.

  2. Heh, I must agree with you. I’ll also add ‘The Reaping with Hilary Swank. Zzzzz. And I may get into trouble with some people for saying so, but I thought ‘Inception’ was excrutiatingly boring.

  3. I see a lot of movies, Samantha, and I've seen all of these except Twilight (which, honestly, I just don't get -- how is it that anyone other than girls under the age of 15 like this????). I'm not sure these are my 5 worst, but what you say is true of them all! The common denominator for me is always Story. If the story sucks, I can't like the movie, no matter how much I like the actors. And the second biggest sin is predictability -- not as in knowing there will be a happy ending (that's cool), but as in knowing the road they'll travel to get there. Okay. 5 worst. Maybe: Mosquito Coast (how s-l-o-w can you go?); Lady in the Water (same film maker as Unbreakable, but the story is even worse); Ishtar (this one is just too easy to hate for a zillion reasons); Passion of the Christ (only because there is way, way, way too much human suffering here -- and yes, I know that's the point, but my imagination works too well to need this kind of visual presentation). This was fun!

  4. Skyline. Hands down. No contest. There is absolutely no plot to this movie. It's all unbeatable aliens eating people. It's filled with terrible acting. And it ends with the main character's brain being put into an alien body, but unlike any of the other people this has happened to before, he still somehow knows he loves his pregnant girlfriend, who he saves from the same fate. The movie ends with them trapped in the alien mothership, so there's not even really an end. Yes, I'm still bitter that I paid money to rent this movie and lost 2 hours of my life to watching it :)

  6. Huh. I really liked the movies on this that I've seen-blow and phone booth I've never watched, but I loved Unbreakable. I loved how quiet it was while people were violent. Kind of like True Grit, which I loved. I like hero movies though, Thor is one of my favorites. (oh, maaaaaaan, I want to be an astro physicist:)

my hated? Kiss of the Dragon, really really gross. Salt, even though it made me laugh it was so ridiculous, Oh! AI- Artificial Intelligence; the most miserable 3 hours of my life! Not really, but we were blocked in, first viewing, packed theater, and it went on and on and on and on... Stupid movie. Even with Jude Law, it was soooooo boring. Hm. That's all I can think of. Fun post!
