The Next Big Thing Redux

One of my favorite blog hops is The Next Big Thing. I did this awhile back for The Seven Keys of Alaesha and I am super excited to have been tagged again by the wonderful and talented Diane Capri. Even though my own Next Big Thing is still several months from release, I'm thrilled to bring you a little preview.

1. What is the title of the work?

The current working title is The Iron Locket. Some other title ideas include Faery Hunter or Faery Blood. I am leaning heavily toward Faery Hunter, though it seems a little plain.

2. Where did the idea for the book come from?

I started out wanting to write a paranormal romance. Since vampires and werewolves have been done to death, I wanted to focus on faeries. It was just going to be a generic human hunts faeries, human meets 'special' faery, human falls in love with faery. But as I was reading through Froud and Lee's Faeries, I came across a tiny little bit of myth that claimed that King Arthur was buried in a hill in the land of Faery, awaiting the day when he would be called upon again in a time of need. That got the ball rolling, so now King Arthur and twelve of his most faithful knights must come to the aid of the four queens of Faery, all the while protecting and falling in love with Aiofe Callaghan, a young woman whose family has been tasked by Titania, Queen of the South, to exterminate faeries who escape to the human world with the intent of causing chaos.

3. What genre is the book?

I am calling it paranormal romance, but it is probably more paranormal-historical romance.

4. Which actors would you choose to play your main characters?

Before starting the novel, I went through and found actors and actresses that I thought would fit the descriptions I had in my head the best. I did all of Arthur's knights, as well as the seven main "good guys" and the four "bad guys."

5. What's a one sentence synopsis for your book?

King Arthur becomes a zombie and falls in love with a red-headed faery hunter.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

While I'm waffling with submitting to agencies, I will likely self-publish it in the meantime, as I really enjoy self-publishing.

7. How long did it take you to write this book?

The book is not finished yet, but the goal is to have it done by mid-January so that I can get it to beta readers and have it back in time to get it to the editor by the first of March. (Note: If you are interested in being a beta reader, give me a shout!)

8. What other books would you compare this book to?

I don't know of any paranormal romances involving faeries and the premise that I have taken on, but it should appeal to lovers of romance and faeries.

9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?

In a review for my vampire novella series, someone said they loved my style of writing, but they took away stars because there was no sex. Up until this point, I have stayed away from writing steamy romance, but I figured it was time to try my hand at it.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?

I think the premise of King Arthur returning from the dead, and having the four queens of Faery (two that I have created specially for this book) forced to work together to save the land from destruction at the hands of Leanansidhe and Titania's son, Kane, will entice people to read. Aiofe is a strong female lead and the introduction of one of Arthur's biggest nemeses will throw a wrench into their plans to get together.
